Dear Alpine families,

It has been another great week at Alpine!

Families visiting on Meet-The-Teacher were warmly greeted by School Council members and encouraged to join council and support us in building an even stronger community and planning next steps for a new playground.  Miss Whistance’s percussion instruments proved very popular and beautiful music was heard coming from the library throughout the evening. More than 10 percent of our students were signed up for SchoolDay this week bringing us almost up to half.  Three lucky students each won a pair of tickets to the Kitchener Ranger’s game against the Sarnia Sting on October 7 – congratulations Nathan, Declan and Quinn!  Of course, we are cheering for the Rangers! We met Allie the Alligator at our first assembly and one of our grade one students won our whole school game of rock-paper-scissors – well done, Heidi!

This week is a short one for students as we have a Professional Activity Day on Friday where staff will be focused on how to improve student learning and well being at Alpine in the morning and engaged in important, annual Health and Safety training in the afternoon.

I have noticed great enthusiasm when students are signing out library books and know that home reading will be starting soon for some of our students.  Thanks for reading with your children at home.

Here is a family math challenge for you this week. I encourage you to take a picture and tweet your answer including @alpwrdsb – you can do it1
